Flex Air's safety policy prioritizes compliance with FAA regulations, encourages anonymous safety reporting, mandates security measures, and outlines emergency response protocols to ensure the highest standards of safety in all flight operations.
Flex Air's safety policy emphasizes the paramount importance of safety in all flight operations. Key components of this policy include:
-
Anonymous Safety Reporting:
- Flex Air encourages the use of an anonymous safety reporting system to identify and correct potentially unsafe practices, procedures, and behaviors. These reports are non-punitive and are reviewed by the Chief Safety Officer.
-
Security Measures:
- Security badges are required for students who have reached a certain stage of training. The badges should not be shared, and any loss or damage incurs a $150 fee.
- Gates and hangars must be properly closed and locked, and any suspicious activity should be reported to local authorities and the AOPA airport watch hotline.
-
Compliance with Regulations:
- All pilots, renters, students, and instructors must comply with FAA regulations at all times. Deviations are only allowed in emergencies or for safety reasons.
-
Authority of Pilot in Command:
- The Pilot in Command is the final authority on the safe operation of the aircraft, responsible for ensuring the success and safety of each flight.
-
Emergency Response Plan:
- An emergency response plan, modeled after the U.S. Navy's Aviation Safety Center's publications, is in place and accessible to all students and instructors. In case of an accident or incident, the plan should be followed thoroughly.
-
Operating Conditions:
- Flights are prohibited in certain extreme weather conditions, such as temperatures above 100°F (37.8°C) or below 20°F (-6.7°C), in known icing conditions, within active SIGMET boundaries, and during 0:0 visibility takeoffs.
This policy ensures that safety remains the top priority in all aspects of Flex Air's operations, providing a structured approach to maintaining high safety standards.
The safety policy is detailed in the Standard Operating Procedures, Version 2.3, updated in December 2023.
